About John


John Wiik was born March 28, 1972 in Ortonville, Minnesota, and lived in Big Stone City.  John attended K-8th grade at Big Stone City School and Graduated in 1990 from Ortonville, MN High School.  John graduated from Interstate Business College's Business Management Program in 1993. 

In 1986, John began as a part time news announcer on KMSD radio, Milbank SD.  After graduating high school, he moved on to Fargo, ND and KVOX, where he started as a part time announcer and worked his way up to Production Coordinator.  Seeking more on-air time, he returned to South Dakota in 1995, at KSDR--Watertown where John began as part-time and soon became the afternoon announcer and music director, eventually moving to morning show host until leaving radio in September 2009.  While in Watertown, John served as a volunteer on the Codington County Republican Party.

John met his wife Chelsey (Brenden) in Henry, SD.  The couple married in 2001 and have two sons, Connor age 10, and Cody age 8.  Chelsey is a full time homemaker and both children attend Big Stone City School.

In September 2009, John returned home to Big Stone City, SD to re-join his family business The Shop Inc., where John is the Parts Manager and helps with repairs and towing.

In November 2014, John was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives, and served on the House Commerce and Energy and House Taxation Committees.  In June of 2015, John was appointed to the River Basin Watershed Task Force, and was elected Vice Chairman of that Task Force.
